Subject: Russell Lake, Dartmouth- a nutshell

(This short email is being Cc’d/Bcc’d to those that I feel may be interested in understanding lake science in a more scientific way; those of you who are not direct stakeholders of Russell Lake are also copied this since this could have relevance to lakes of interest to you as well. Kindly click on the underlined words to take you instantly to the relevant web pages. This email throws more light on some statements I made to Walter Regan of the SRA relating to the publicly funded staff report on metro lakes submitted by Dr. Tony Blouin to the Regional Council which I had Cc’d to most of you 2 weeks ago!)

The short JPEG scan is the conclusion of independent scientific researchers under the federal NSERC grant who worked under an international award winning scientist, Prof. Dr. John Smol FRSC, who is consulted worldwide inclusive of by the powerful U.S. Senate; I recall I had already submitted details of it via two (2) different written submissions to the HRM’s Harbour East Community Council (HECC) during years 2005 and 2006 many of which I placed on the internet as well.

As you can see from the JPEG scan, Russell Lake has NOT recovered in some significant indicators contrary to claims made by Dr. Tony Blouin. The most possible reasons in Tony’s erroneous conclusions are that he was basing his conclusions on `kindergarten-level’ chemistry (both HRM’s as well as the consultant’s), to put it mildly!

There are other parameters, i.e., the important littoral (i.e., shallow area) production, that none of the above reports addressed but a research team coordinated by us, attempted it and select results are indeed publicly available.

Please do not forget that chemistry is just a snapshot of the ecosystem where as biology is the videotape as recognized by all leading international limnologists over generations! One has to be on literally `on top’ of scientific journals on a regular basis!
