Subject: Reinforcement of the dire need of an authentic FRESHWATER AUTHORITY at the NSEL!

(This will perhaps be the briefest e-mail (or facsimile) that we sent your department over the last twenty-20 long years to pre-empt the excuses of lengthy communications for perpetual inactions!)

We herewith respectfully beg Sir that you set up a PRAGMATIC FRESHWATER AUTHORITY at your publicly funded department without any further delay. We had already made several written formal submissions to your department dating back to the era of the Hon. John Leefe BEd (kindly click on the underlined words to access the relevant web pages).

This is as a result of multiple aspects that you must be already aware of based on past communications to/with you and your predecessors of all political stripes coupled with your pro-environment statements made in the media during the last 2 weeks!

You have no authentic pragmatic experts in the freshwater sciences and neither does any of the municipalities inclusive of the HRM (HRM staff’s latest total failure was evident in a recent submission they made to the Regional Council on lake water quality which was not based on sound limnological principles and I had sent most of you detailed e-mails on it).

There are indeed international ACCREDITATIONS available for which present and/or future employees can apply for.

Incidentally, this is NOT engineering or hydrogeology or general biology though a background in all will be an added asset!

And the staff paid with public funds must work pragmatically rather than be typical `backseat advisers’ as is now the perpetual case, alas! If necessary, present senior staff should be replaced.

This procedure has indeed been followed in some enlightened State jurisdictions in the USA and I had sent you examples of them in previous e-mails (and we know this to be a fact due to our vast international network of scientists, both in the theoretical and applied domain)!
